A Digital Currency for Algeria
The Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is rapidly gaining ground. This currency offers great opportunities to promote financial inclusion while disrupting traditional financial and banking architecture in countries that adopt it.
The pandemic and the resulting economic crisis, exacerbated by the Ukrainian conflict, has changed global trade. One of the deepest changes was the shift to digital payments and their use online.
With countries recognizing the need to promote the integration and interoperability of their currencies, this new financial infrastructure could greatly promote internal financial services and facilitate and speed up cross-border transactions.
Nearly 120 countries are studying or adopting this type of currency. The BRICS group, to which about ten countries have applied to join including Algeria, are generally very advanced in implementing this currency.
